Hawaiian Chant & Hula Performace
Start your session with one of the most familiar sounds of Hawaii – the sound of the pū, the mystical conch shell. This sound will float through the air and awaken the spirits, announcing to the gathered guests that an event is about to begin. It is a sound that was first heard in Hawai‘i over 1,500 years ago. A single voice begins, speaking to the ancestors, rising with exclamation, falling with emotion. This is oli aloha, a customary chant of welcome. Dancers come to the forefront, dressed in time-honored garb, and perform hula kahiko, the ancient style of dance, recounting the stories of old. The honored guests are pleased, they understand that this is traditional Hawai‘i.
